The Plastic Woodie

The Plastic Woodie

Jason Perrin |

As a collector/horder of rare and vintage lacrosse equipment and memorabilia you find yourself unable to stop......hording/collecting.

I'm forever on the lookout for unusual items but wooden lacrosse sticks have became a passion of mine of the past decade. While searching various auction sites I came across a stick that most people would not given a second look, a wooden field stick but the photo was a little off....the colour of the stick, the odd shine from the camera flash and on closer inspection on a larger screen it seemed that the sidewall had an odd feature which confirmed to me that this was not a wooden stick at all but a molded plastic. I've only seen one such stick before and having been offered the stick I stupidly turned it down, needless to say I have kicked myself a few times doing this over the years.

Not wanting to miss out on this odd "woodie", I was quick to add to my basket before another collector spotted this rare lacrosse stick. There's nothing worth then thinking about a potential purchase only to find someone else has beat you to it. I've always been one of those people who thinks if the price is fare then just pay the man, I hate those who haggle just to try and save a penny or two when they know from the get go that the price is good.

Those of you that follow our YouTube channel will know that the guys over at ECD in Towson have been a willing post box for me in the US, the running joke is that they know a large ECD order is coming when lots of random boxes with my name appear over a week or two....and it goes without saying that we are always well stocked on ECD lacrosse product at our store.

It might not be a wooden stick but this a super rare and fills a piece of the timeline in the lacrosse stick evolution we have seen. Visitors to our store enjoy the opportunity to see various sticks within my ever growing collection that spans close to 180 years.
